modo 401 and modo 501
A set of 9 tools that will help you to work with polylines inside of modo: From clean-up -to- scaling -to- slicing up geometry.
Note. CADbuddy is no longer available as the tools are currently being integrated into a new product called mARCH™. mARCH will be available for modo at the end of December 2011. For information about it's release please sign-up to our newsletter.
You can view a short demo of mARCH on our YouTube channel.
Scale any mesh item based on the length of one edge. A very popular and super handy addition to modo's toolset.
Videos are best when viewed in 720p; full screen mode.
Use any edge selection to drive modo's slicing tool. For example, you can use edges from an imported elevation to cut the walls of a building model. This tool automatically eliminates duplicates allowing for lazy selections and the main options will ensure you that only create vertical or horizontal slices. In addition, there's a "projection slice" option that enables you to make vertical cuts along a direction and to a specified depth based on a polygon selection.
Use any vertex selection to drive modo's polygon extrude tool. For example, you can extrude a floor plan to the height of vertices that are selected from a side elevation. Very handy.
Bridge mutiple groups of polygins at once. A real time saver. Note: Only for use with non-curved windows and door openings.
CADbuddy is a set of easy to use tools that help you to make use of polylines and edges, especially those from imported architectural plans, in modo. It helps with tasks such as merging layers, scaling and using the polylines or edges as guides for the automated cutting of geometry (as opposed to using boolean methods).
Note. CADbuddy is not for CAD drafting in modo and we recommed that you use a program like Draftsight if you need to draft out or re-draw arch-viz plans.
Neil Hayes has been using modo and making add-ons since version 101 (2005). He's the director of The Third Guild, a 3d artist and a well know modo user with a passion for Architectural Visualisation (see Neil's review of modo 501 for CGarchitect.) CADbuddy is ever expanding and is the core of Neil's modoCAD™ tools.
